Rural Education Achievement Program:
Since my freshmen year I have participated in REAP. This program rewards over achieving students that qualify for every grade of a three point five or higher and with a life skills of a four in the course. This scholarship program provides underprivileged students with the opportunity to receive monetary support in order to allow us the opportunity to pursue a higher education that under any other circumstances we might not have been able to obtain. This program not only requires us to obtain higher grades, it also expects us to tutor our peers and to present information to parents and lower grade students in the program. For example, some of my classmates and I led an informational presentation for the eighth grade class parents and students. My junior and senior year I became secretary for the club and I was responsible for helping our administrator plan meetings and activities. Migrant Speech and Debate: My Junior year was the first year I participated in Migrant Speech. I worked hard from October to April to bring together my speeches and perfect my speaking skills. The tournament took place in Monterey Bay. I delivered three prepared speeches and three extemporaneous speeches. This constant delivery of speeches to complete strangers was difficult, but it helped practice my speaking skills and it taught me how to be comfortable in front of an unknown crowd. I placed second for the extemporaneous speeches, and after leaving the hotel the day after the competition, the three students that participated in speech and the debate team went to the beach. California Scholarship Federation: I became a member of CSF my sophomore year. I was introduced to this club by my AVID adviser who encouraged our class to join because it would be beneficial our senior year. |

Lindsay High School Girls Tennis
My Junior year was my first year participating in a sport. I knew that I wanted to play a sport in High School but I had no idea which one, this was when one of my AVID sisters mentioned to me that she was on the tennis team. the season had barely started and I still had time to join the team. I decided to join and attended practice every day to learn how to play and to become a better teammate. I also participated in tennis my senior year, I made my way up the ladder from 11th place to 6th.

Advancement Via Individual Determination
I have been in AVID since my freshmen year. AVID has become a big part of my life, nearly every day of my life revolves around AVID. With the help of my AVID Mother Ms. Torres and our former AVID adviser Ms.Wills, I have learned many of the skills that have helped shape me into the scholar I am today. AVID has exposed me to taking more risks and becoming more involved in my community.
We have also had several field trips in AVID. We have visited many campuses in order to expose ourselves to the different campus sizes and living styles.
